Today, the rate of development in Africa is exponential in nearly all sectors. The demand for quality furniture follows in the residential, commercial and institutional sectors. Currently, a large percentage of furniture supplied to the market comes from abroad and could easily be designed and manufactured in Africa. The School of Craft at Majeurs Academy offers a Professional Diploma Program and an Advanced Professional Diploma Program in Furniture Manufacturing. The P. Dip. (Furniture Manufacturing) program is for 2 years full-time, whilst the AP.Dip (Furniture Manufacturing) is a follow-up that spans for 1 year full-time. Topragmatically respond to the furniture industry's growing needs and the market, our skill-based programs prepare students to become leaders and innovators in a rapidly emerging new-age furniture industry.
Addressing this reality, the programs will equip students with the tools to add value to all aspectsof the furniture industry. "Adding value" is the key objective for the furniture manufacturer, whereby a detailed understanding of materials and manufacturing processes enables better products. In addition, the needs of the consumer, either private individuals or corporate or institutional customers, will be understood to facilitate the appropriate design solutions. The programs will address contemporary issues such as mass production, customisation, future technologies, and environmental issues and, at the same time, look at cultural skills and design and manufacturing techniques.
Students will be taught by highly trained academic and technical staff who are also practising professionals engaged within the field. They will have access to a first class workshop facility which will be integrated into the learning process; where ideas can be tested and full scale models made. All the resources of Majeurs’ Ltd factory will be available to the students of the program and they will be encouraged to engage with different furniture manufacturing disciplines. Overall, the program equips students with in-depth understanding of furniture manufacturing and encourages them to investigate the current trends in materials, technology and consumer behaviour in order to develop innovative, efficient and culturally relevant furniture solutions for the African market.
Our approach blends theory with practice, enabling students to experience hands-on training along with classroom demonstration. This mix prepares them for real-worldchallenges in the furniture industry. Our Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) provides real-world industrial work exposure to hone occupational competencies, increase diversity awareness, and link academic learning to industry practice.
We combine traditional and modern innovative training methods, including MANDE’s AI quality checks, to prepare our students for the evolving furniture industry.
Our trainers are industry experts ensuring that they are both knowledgeable and skilled to drive necessary growth and change in the industry.
